Sophisticated Text Message Scam Circulating
We have received reports from members about a highly sophisticated text message scam currently in circulation. The scam involves messages that impersonate a family member and request money, often claiming an urgent or emotional situation.
Scammers may use real family members’ names and personal details to appear credible. They frequently rely on emotional manipulation, repeated calls, and persistent text messages to create a sense of urgency and pressure victims into transferring funds quickly.
Members are urged to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with suspicious messages. Do not send money in response to unsolicited requests. Always verify the situation by contacting the family member or a trusted individual directly using a known and reliable phone number.
If you receive a message you believe to be fraudulent, report it immediately and delete the message. Staying alert and taking time to verify requests can help prevent financial loss.
